Hmm, I find it interesting that very few people can admit that a more expensive piece of clothing could possibly be made from better materials, or be better constructed. Kinda like arguing that a Mercedes is no better of a machine than an Edsel. And just because someone spends an above-average amount on a product service doesn't mean that they're necessarily shallow (although they could very well be). Some people just have an unusually strong interest in a certain field, whether that interest is autmotive, culinary, sartorial, or what have you.
That being said, I never saw the point in spending anymore than absolutely necessary until about 6-8 months ago.
My usual pricerange:
Jeans: 75-130
Shoes: 60
Dress shoes/boots: 150+
Jacket: 120+
Pants other than jeans: sometimes I can find them on sale for 50 or so, but usually around 80-90
Dress shirts: 60-150
