I would NOT want to fire a .50 cal (even if it is a short round) with a rifle that weighs 8 lbs. When I fired a Barrett .50 cal BMG load with a full barrel and no muzzle brake, the thing literally blew me and my mat back about 6 inches from where we started, and I weighed probably 175lbs at the time.
If you want to see a SWEET piece, check out the L&G .50 cal upper that bolts to an AR lower with no mods. Full length barrel, muzzle brake, and a .50 BMG round is loads of fun on a Bushmaster lower with a Jewell trigger : ) First saw that one at commercial row over at Camp Perry about 3 years back.
