I believe the DCMA states that you can't make any backup copies because that act in itself violates the copy protection clause in the DCMA. But I'm no lawyer.

As for watching the film from the hard disk, try Nero Recode. However, you'll need to capture the entire DVD using DVD Decryptor first.
