I've found that when my O2 level goes down, my REM sleep tends toward nightmares. I'll ask a few questions:
1) Do you snore?
2) How much sleep do you get per night, with how much variation?
If you snore a lot, you might want to have a sleep study to determine if there's a problem. That's an issue for you to speak of with your doctor.
If you don't get enough sleep, there are other issues you might have.
