I'm personally offended and disgusted by you bringing up a hack like Paul van Dyk in this thread. Even more so that you said he's "not really IDM", implying that he is in any sort of way remotely as ingenious as the most piss-poor idm artist.
PvD is trance. His specific sub-genra is shitty etard trance. If you want good trance, pick up Hallucinogen's "The Lone Deranger" album (not available at your local music store... try psyshop.com ).
