I used to have this problem nightly when I was pregnant. Dr told me the same thing. She gave me a prenatal vitamin complex with extra, potassium, folate, and iron. It seemed to help.
I also had lots of water retention because I had poor circulation to the lower extremities - don't know if that contributes.
