I played diablo 2 online for years, didnt use a maphack, enjoyed the wandering.... to each his own though, im not going to stop someone from using it to make runs of bosses, but It's just not my thing
if the game was meant to be played with you knowing the level, the game would have shown you the entire level's map right from the start.
