I helped create a retention rewards program for the technical group.
Basically we all learn new technology on our own time and own dime, and when it becomes time to roll it out since we are "experts" we get called in to at least help lead the intial team.
So the program created was basically having to write up a book report, I called it the $2000 paper, because if you wrote it you'd probably get the bonus which was cash and a percentage raise. It was a 3 level tier so that you had 3 opportunities to use within your grade level.
I had one person shot down because someone complained about her which was later researched and found to be without merit, but she still didn't get the award.
Sometimes it's lame, but in all the programs do what they are supposed to which is help reward and retain.
