I get that same error sometimes when I am ripping dvd's with dvd decrypter. If I clean the disk or put it in my other dvd drive the second time I try ripping it almost always works. For the few cases where the disk was extremly scratched I have had some luck with 321 Studios DVD X Rescue.
I personally ripped Matrix Reloaded without any proplems so I don't think it has any special encryption.
