I lie when I need to. It saves me the trouble of dealing with my mom's irrational logic (I'm 20, I should be allowed to stay out past 10:30 and hang out at school with friends) and saves her the stress of wondering what I'm up to.
It's from one of Shakespeare's plays

Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive!
Sir Walter Scott's "Marmion" Canto vi Stanza 17
Also used in a slightly different phrasing in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (or was it Othello?)
