Scarface? Oh, oh, it's up there, but for mindless violence with minimal payoff that people just go gaga over, that's got to be Resivoir Dogs. OK, it's not a bad film, but great? I think not.
As for LOTR - take that back before I beat you senseless! jk
You miss 3/4 of those movies if you haven't read the books. I have been waiting for them for 20 years, and I don't see how they could have been done better. (I will even go so far as to grant that the story could have been better, but it was really the first of its kind, and the nostalgia value glosses over pretty much any flaws - like the interminable ending of ROTK - that might be there.)
