I know the router's IP is 192.168.1.1, it's the default and I haven't changed it.

set your computer's IP address to 192.168.1.100 if it's set to anything but something other than 192.168.1.x. you should then be able to connect.

I tried this, but I was still unable to connect.

Is it windows telling you that you can't get to it offline? Like when you "work offline" with IE, or is it a message from the router?

It's from working offline, it's not a message from the router.
When I first got DSL, I had it set up like I want it now, but I changed to directly connecting to the modem because BitTorrent wasn't behaving. Now after looking through the manual I see it's an easy problem to fix, but I can't get it to work any more.
