I know how he feels to a certain extent.
When I was 11 or 12 I was playing around with a pair of my moms' small surgical scissors and got one of the handle rings stuck on my finger.
My finger swelled up to where it wouldn't budge no matter what I put on it.
When mom got home from work she took me to the emt/firehouse to get it cut off.
/didn't really need that finger
