Opeth - Lamentations [Live at Shepherd's Bush Empire, London 2003]

Video: Clean, nothing fancy. It's kept simple since it seems to work out the best (it's Opeth after all!). Widescreen.

Audio: Dolby Stereo, DTS, 5.1 Surround Sound available. A quick warning...do not ruin the experience going stereo...DTS is soooo much better. At times the bass can become a bit too much.

Content: Well...pretty damn near perfect. Opeth chose to make this a two set gig. The first set gives the viewer a sense of Opeth's gentler sound and their incredible sense for melodies. The first set consists of all the songs off the "Damnation" album and "Harvest" off the Blackwater Park album.

Beautiful vocals and haunting melodies but the standout tracks of the first set are "Windowpane" and "Closure".

The second set is a heavy set in true Opeth form. The most impressive thing is how tight the band is. These songs are no walk in the park to pull off live and yet they do it almost flawlessly. Standout tracks are "Deliverance" and "The Leper Affinity".

Extra: A one hour interview/documentary on the making of the "Deliverance" and "Damnation" albums.

Bottomline: This DVD has almost something for everyone. Fans that appreciate Opeth's newer stuff will have nothing to complain about. Yet, for the fans of the older stuff well...there is no older songs played live (Pre Blackwater Park stuff that is). A shame but you can't have everything I guess. I give it 4.5/5.
