Oh brother these people just can't get things straight.
When we signed the lease for this year I had negotiated a lower price for our apt rent. They agreed to it and we signed a Rent Consession stating what the difference was and how it was to be handled. The woman who I had talked to at corporate had even remembered the amount and told me that things were correct in their system. Then she sent me a ledger of all our transactions with them since we originally moved in more than 2 years ago. The last two entries show that they did not apply the rent consession to the rent that we've paid and now our backcharging us $90 for those two months - the difference between the usual rent and our rent. I will have to copy my lease papers which have been signed and send them along with a letter clarifying their error. I have also found out the name of the CEO and I think I will send the letter in care of him since no one else has given me proper assistence. The two girls that I have dealt with seem like total airheads.
It seems like the corporation is out to get all the money they can out of me beyond the usual. I'm not about to let them walk all over me. As long as I have the signed papers I will make sure that they get things right. Come next year - We're out of here if we can.
I am currently looking into an FHA loan and seeing what we can do to get more permanant housing elseware ASAP. I also just read a clause in our lease that gives us an out if we want to cancel our contract. Something with regards to - the tenant shall be responsible for the remainder of the lease should the tenant cancel the contract without the first lease year. We are in our third lease year and I have a copy of their ledger showing that we have been payinglease payments since March of 2002. As far as I can tell we're in the clear then should we decide to leave. Better hang on to our papers.
