Hey there.
I don't know too much about IRC, but I know enough to get you started..
I use mIRC, which can be advanced, but isn't too overwhelming.
You can check it out/download it
HERE.
There are other clients available, but I am honestly not too familiar with them.
After you download the Setup program from that site, you will want run it, and install it.
Then, after installing, start up mIRC.
The mIRC options screen will then open up.
At the top (to the right), you should see a few small buttons. Click "Add."
For description, I would put in "TFP Chatroom." This will identify the chat, so you will be able to find it again.
In the IRC Server text box, enter: irc.shadowfire.org
Don't change the Port(s). If it is empty, put: 6667 in the box.
For "Group" I entered: Other
That allows me to put all my Chatrooms into one Group.
Then click "Add."
After you click "Add," the chatroom will be added to your list. You should see it listed in the Dropdown list at the top center of the screen.
There is username and real name textboxes below. I recommend filling them out, but you don't have to give your real name. I'd just put a username you want in there (for both).
Now click, "Connect to IRC Server."
It will now connect you to the server the chat room is hosted on.
A window should pop up with a long list of room names. The room you want probably isn't on that list.
In the text box at the top enter the following: #tfp
# is the channel-prefix. So you are joining channel (#) TFP.
After entering the channel name, hit the Enter key, or click "Join."
You should then be entered into the chat room and see other users in it as well.
Chat away!
If any of the above instructions are un-clear or incorrect, please let me know. I am not an "IRC Master," but I am confident I know a few basic things, such as adding a server, and joining a chat room. If I messed up though, or you get confused, let me know and I'll fix it.
Take care and have fun!
