I'd be vaguely worried about the old spiral. Reinforcing asphixiation with orgasms is a good way to make asphixiation->arosal connection stronger.
And, as people noted, getting turned on by asphixiation has problems if it passes beyond where you are right now. =/
On the bright side, it is probably no more dangerous, and more socially accepted, than doing recreational drugs. Just keep the fact it could get dangerous if you don't keep it in control in mind.
