The point is a baby can't defend itself, and also cannot provoke an attack, where as an adult or adolescent can. Most of us have a genetic instinct to defend children, and for people who have had children it actually is more outrageous for someone to murder a baby than to murder an adult.
Also, not to keep labouring the point, but I wonder would have happened if someone like me had make the "baby back rib" comment and it was someone else's thread. But it's all a matter of degree I suppose, calling American soldiers murderers is one thing, and joking about dead babies is something else.
