it's recommended that you register your nickname with nickserv...
unless you want your name leeched by someone else...
type: /msg nickserv register yourpassword youremail
then check your email - should be immediate - you'll get an authentication code - like this...
/msg NickServ AUTH *********
copy and paste that line in the channel - enter - you should be all set
