here's a bizarre video issue. Any ideas?
I'm running an ATI AIW 9600 Pro on an NEC FE950 monitor at 1024x768, 32 bit color and a Sony 15" at 800x600, 32 bit color running windows 2000.
Here's the strange part. All applications display in 32 bit color. The start menu and its icons display in 32 bit color, and so do the icons on the right side of the taskbar. The icons on the quicklaunch bar (left side of the taskbar) are displaying in 256 colors, as are the desktop icons, although the desktop wallpaper is displaying in 32bit. Does this no matter which monitor the taskbar and icons are placed on. Does this whether or not the secondary (the Sony) is disabled. No viruses, no spyware that I've found.
BTW, if I get properties on one of the desktop items, the icon in the properties window displays in 256, but the properties window itself (i.e. the gradient in the top bar) is in 32 bit.
Not a big deal, obviously, but I'm kinda a visual person and it's pretty annoying. Any ideas what this is all about?
