Insurance is not an option on eBay stuff, it is a fact of life. Delivery confirmation, too. Without it you are screwed and there are lots of folks out there looking to take advantage of the people who don't have protection.
I recently had to refund a sale that was delivered to a customer because I didn't have delivery confirmation on the package. I left off all of the extra features at his request to save him shipping fees from the US to Canada. As soon as I agreed to ship without it, he knew he had found a sucker. He contacted PayPal and they refunded his money.
Nothing I could do, whatsoever.
