I second Kurant all the way.
Wifey has an ML320 and it is a great vehicle (like Kurant I drive something I can tow my boat behind). Her vehicle is 3 years old, has 50,000 mi on it and not a lick of trouble. We live in Central California and it spend at least 25 weekends a year in the high Sierras. I've taken it to every place I could get my old fj62 Cruiser to ..... and done it more comfortably, more nimbley and more reliably (though it does cause family friction; funny, she never had problems with me risking MY vehicle!). But where this vehicle shines is in the snow, the all-wheel drive and the computerized Electronic Traction and Stabilization Systems are amazing. We ski A LOT and have had it on roads that seemed impassable and it drove like we were on dry road. I really believe it is the best in its class ..... Its looks are deceiving .... it will take everything you want to throw at it.
