if it were my choice, i'd go with option two.
in the long run, 2 days down is nothing (even though i'd be itching till you brought us back up).
i don't mind missing the journals... i've not created one of my own and don't keep up with other's very much. i think i'm in the majority as far as this goes, but i'm sure they do mean a lot to those who participate in them.
