Tough rips are pretty standard at Myrtle Beach. I go there several times a year (3 hour drive) and I won't even swim there anymore.
As far as near-death goes, I am amazed that I survived my teen years at all. I have a very deep appreciation of waking up every single day and being able to roll out of bed...
