Hyperthreading doesn't require special software like 64 bit applications do. HT processors can do multiple tasks at once instead of doing tasks linearly, hence speeding up the system a great deal.

Although the processors themselves don't run at 2.5 gig, they run at about the same speed as a Pentium 4 2.5 ghz. It's saying it has the same speed without stealing Intel's marketing.
