I used to sit on the porch of my lakehouse as a kid and watch the storms roll across the lake. Ahh, memories of childhood summers...
As for hurricanes, I can remember Hugo, which rolled through when I was four. I still remember looking out the window and seeing the pine tree in our front yard bending over, looking for all the world like it was about to obliterate our house.
To truly enjoy a thunderstorm though, I think it is best to be somewhere where there are no other distractions--a cabin in the mountains, my house (cabin) at the lake... Places where there are no distractions, no pressing needs, and you can just sit there and watch the storm roll by.
