Personally, I think women have no right to bitch about toilet seat position. It's just stupid. If they fall in the bowl, it's their fault for being stupid.
At our house the lid stays down for two reasons:
(1) If it's up, the cats will drink out of the toilet, and
(2) It just looks better that way
