He cannot win it. His only arguments are that he should have been allowed to file by the old date, and that SF had no right to trade him without his consent. Well, his agent had the responsibility to know when the dates were, and was notified about them, and last time I checked, SF could trade him wherever they wanted.
It would set a bad precident in the league; if you didn't want to play for a team, you could simply go to court.
