To say hockey players are incapable of not fighting when they take hits doesnt make any sense though. Footballers take a lot of hard hits and tackles, and most of the time at least dont need to jump up and start fist fighting.

a fringe sport, have you been under a rock, and hockey not being a genuine athletic contest, like Hanxter said put on some skates and try playing a shift in any game I guarantee you won't last. Hockey is not full of bullies and thugs name me some of these "thugs" if it is full of them.
Comparing football(soccer I assume) with hockey really doesn't work, is there body contact to the extent that there is in the NHL? Not in any soccer games I have watched the get penalties for thing like that. And I seem to remember seeing some soccer player punching a referee at some time in the last couple of years, now that must be a bully. Do you even know what people like to watch during a hockey game? 95% of the arena will be on its feet once the fight start the fans love them, I am assuming that you don't watch a massive amount of hockey. But like Hanxter said the emotions are what lets these things develop not like soccer hooligans.
