Hockey will never be more than the fringe sport that it is then... if they dont clean the game up and get rid of the fighting and make it a genuine athletic contest it will stay what it is, a violent sport full of bullies and thugs, which most people dont want to watch.
To say hockey players are incapable of not fighting when they take hits doesnt make any sense though. Footballers take a lot of hard hits and tackles, and most of the time at least dont need to jump up and start fist fighting.
