To truly understand why fight occur in hockey one has to be in a hockey fight and see how they develop. They are not trying to kill and maim each other, hurt each other yes it's a fight what else are you supposed to do. If fighting is taken out of the game all players have rule of the ice and the high-sticking and slashing will be out of control. These players have to worry about their jobs first being a role model is secondary and you are not going to chane your style of play because you think some kid's parents don't explain to them that when you reach a certain level of hockey tough guys become part of the game. If they wanted to rid hockey of fighting they are about 50-60 years too late, take it out now and fans will run away like they are at a Michael Jackson concert.

How can you say people who fight should be given 10 game suspensions this is ridiculous, do you realize some players have between 12-20 fighting majors, now with your 10 game suspension for a fight how many games are these players going to be playing in a year? You get in 8 fights and BANG years over. Not a good solution at all.
