Very similar situation happened to me. I was under so much stress from school, that I was having an extremely difficult time falling asleep, or even finding the time to sleep. After sleeping a few minutes a night for a few days, I remained awake for 64 consecutive hours. When Saturday rolled around, I slept for 18 consecutive hours, despite my roomates trying their hardest to wake me up.
