Sarcasm is irony with a little meanness thrown in. I'm all about irony, and, though I do try, I am not a very nice person, so sarcasm gets through sometimes. Is there a point? Sure, there's that moment of indescision and delicious confusion while the target figures out that you mean exactly the opposite of what you just said, or, sometimes, in an occasion of hyperbole, as in:
"Got a little cold there?"
"No, I have a pet Amazonian nose gecko. Do I look like I have a runny nose? Damn! I'm gonna have to nosebreak the little devil pretty soon. Excuse me while I wipe."
