Mine wasn't much of a puppy .. it was my first dog I will always remember. Wasn't really mine either. Mom told me back then that she wound up giving him away to some farm because he was a big dog and very protective. Wouldn't let the mail lady deliever mail. But in the time we had the him he was my dog.
Someone had beat him and he was a stray our neighbor found and brought home. But he didn't stay there and wound up under my dads car. No-one in the family could get him to come out. I think I was like in kindergarten at the time... reached under the car. Took the dog by his front paws and pulled him out. His breath smelled like soap so I named him Soapy and after that he was my best friend. Golden Retreiver. Knew when I got out of school and was there to greet me everyday and walk me home. Walked me to school. He was the coolest and smartest dog. Wouldn't let no-one but mom and I close to him. I knew the day he didn't show up at school that something was wrong. I think we must have had him for a good month it seemed.
Found out later that mom hadn't found a farm for him at all but had called the pound to pick him up. Altho the pound had mentioned to her they knew someone who lived on a farm that may have been interested in him. Altho he wouldn't let no-one come to the door. That part was true. She didn't want to tell me thet truth as she didn't want my feelings hurt at the time and knew I wouldn't at that age I wouldn't understand. I think she lied more to protect herself from having to tell the truth and the hurt she would have had to deal with at the time. I don't hold grudge about it tho. As an adult with kids now I understand her position. Sometimes trying to tell your kids things because it's for the best isn't always such an easy task to have to do.
