I built two computers in the last two months. One computer runs very hot and one is cool.
First the hot.
AMD XP 1700
( YES I put on a thin coat of arctic silver paste that came with heat sink

THERMALTAKE VOLCANO 11 HEATSINK
ASUS A7N8X DELUXE
AGP PNY GEFORCE 2 VIDEO CARD
NO PCI CARDS
ONE MAXTOR 80 GIG. ATA 133
ONE CD BURNER
ONE CORSAIR 512 2700 MEMORY
ANTEC 300WAT POWER SUPPLY
When I put my hand behind this computer the air blowing out the back is hot like a hair dryer. It warms my 22’ by 14’ living room.
………..
The cool computer.
AMD XP 2200
STOCK AMD HEATSINK with tape on it
ECS K7VMM+ BOARD
ONBOARD VIDEO
NO PCI CARDS
ONE MAXTOR 15 GIG. ATA100
ONE CD-ROM DRIVE
TWO 256 PC-133 MEMORY
ANTEC 350WATT POWER SUPPLY
When I put my hand behind this computer I almost soiled myself. The air blowing out the back is cool. I mean the same temp. as if the fan was not even connected to a computer.
………….
WELL THERE IT IS. Both run XP pro. Both cases are almost identical and have one 80mm fan blowing in the bottom front and one 80mm fan blowing out the top back. ANYBODY HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS ABOUT WHY ONE RUNS COOL AND ONE RUNS HOT?
