It seems I have to clarify what I meant
McDonald's actions themselves are socially responsible - not providing something which NO ONE needs (a supersize coke and fries is over 600 calories! Not to mentions the burger) - but their reasoning behind it is likely, as many have pointed out, far from socially responsible.
