Short ones
MY LAST SMILE
When
the time for me
is over
and
I’ve tasted
my last taste of wine
and
been given
my last kiss goodnight,
when I’ve read
my last page
and
spoken
my very last line,
when I walk
down that hallway
for
the very last time,
I hope
I happen to think
of you,
and I hope
God is kind.
___________
LOST
The words on the sign said
you are here and,
well,
I certainly am.
But
that was some time ago and
I’ve moved on a bit,
rounded a corner or two,
fallen once and scabbed a knee,
taken a side road
that
led me back
to where I am.
And it is the same place,
it appears to be the same
but
there is no sign,
and though I know I am here,
I know not where I am.
