Two things. First off, to make updated models for this version of the game, they had to rebuild Max. This is why he looks so different. The old skins just could not be rebuild with more polygons, etc. At least they kept his voice.
As for MP, of course they never will have it. But I think it could be done. Lets think of it this way:
Five players.
Two of you are in bullet time mode, so you are seeing three other players in slo-mo.
The fourth player you will see in real time, because he is in bullet-time himself.
If his bullet time period ends, you will watch him go to slow motion with the other players.
If you are not in bullet time mode, you will simply watch someone begin moving much faster.
This seems very similar to the speed mode you could get from Jedi Outcast.
I like the game. It doesn't seem to be as much of a nail biter as the previous game, plus the bullet time mode seems to last forever, which makes it a little easy. I retry extra difficult scenes a few times to see if I can save a painkiller or two.
Of course, the game is gorgeous. On the ATI 9800Pro it is just amazing to watch. Even the special effects smoke in the funhouse look like "special effects". Amazing. I've grabbed quite a few screenshots since everything is rendered in-game. The game seems more cinematic than the previous game. More cool camera angles, more cool scene renditions.
The story seems rushed. I have heard the game ends too soon, and I am really wondering why they didn't take the time to flesh out the story a bit more. I suppose it has to do with thumbing their noses at people like Id who seem to have trouble releasing products: they seemed to have no trouble getting the code out on time. I would hope the next story takes a bit more time to develop, though.
Go get it if you even remotely liked the first one.
