Carfax is a tool that dealers use to put your mind at ease, not a legitimate service. I've seen a car that was totalled by a truck that floated into it during a 4-foot flood come up as clean title 3 years after it was given a salvage title. It was labelled as "sold to dealership" when it was junked.
That killed my faith in CarFax
