Capturing the Friedmans
I rented this movie last night (because i'm a complete slut for documentaries) and found it really interested. has anyone else here seen it?
The obvious questions to ask is: Did they do it? I think probably not -- I've read a lot about the accusation of satanism that were flying around at the same time and how children were subject to suggestive questioning and got caught up in the mass hysteria of their community and I suspect the Friedman case was a similar situation. Given the father's admissions of molesting other children one can hardly feel bad for him, though i think the conviction of the son verged on tragic.
I found it incredibly interesting that the family continues filming themselves throughout the whole ordeal -- it seems almost morbid the way the sons film their parents fighting over the molestation charges. It's also shocking that the older son could so easily turn on his mother -- while she didn't seem like the most loving person I think she was still the victim of her husband -- just like her sons and the children that he admits to molesting.
