Exploding Targets

Just ordered a box of exploding binary targets from www.tannerite.com. I understand that these suckers are louder than dynamite and can be heard from eight miles away. What sold me on them was the "woodie" comment made by Tannerite's owner, which I initially read in Small Arms Review coming back from the Knob Creek Machine Gun Shoot. Not sure what kinds of "applications" there are for this stuff beyond the obvious. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Anyone ever used this stuff or seen it in action???

We are the inventor of the Binary Target concept as well as the chemical composition. These amazing 1/2 pound targets are so freakin loud that we recomend they be used in remote areas only to avoid complaints from neighboring land owners. We have a 110% guarantee that you will be so happy with these KICK ASS targets, that if you'r not shocked as hell with the first shot, we'll refund your order NO QUESTIONS ASKED. Guaranteed to give grown men woodies. The chest thumping ROAR of the Tannerite TM Exploding Target is one of the most exihilerating feelings a gun lover can have. Perfect for a number of applications.

Please, PLEASE, use ear protection. And have fun!

Um.. why not just put a small fire 20ft from a propane tank and shoot the tank? Never let me down.

Propane tanks are entertaining, but it's not very practical to purchase and tote around a dozen tanks for an afternoon shoot with your buddies.

Agreed. I think that it sounds like a blast (sorry). So long as you take care, go have fun and come back and tell us about it. I don't know of anyone who's used thesre before, btw.

Even the small ones blow up quite nicely.

on mythbusters I thought they had busted the hollywood myth that when shot, a car's gas tank will explode, except if the round is a tracer (burning phosphore working as ignitor).

Hense the fire nearby. The propane will VERY quickly expand, and the fire will ignite that expansion quite nicely.

spray paint or ether cans set near a fire are pretty good, but not as good as propane.

Just use the camping stove ones.

Also, is it safe to assume that tannerite can be mixed and decanted into smaller containers like those 8-oz water bottles with reusable caps?

The_Dunedan 01-04-2006 12:25 PM

Tannerite is FUN SHIT. A single 1/2-lb bottle of this stuff will, when placed under a dryer:

1: Launch the motor 5-8 stories into the air.
2: Turn the sheetmetal skin inside-out.
3: Send the control-board about 50 meters downrange.
4: Launch the "drum" nearly as high as the motor, while folding it into a V shape.
5: Blast a 6-foot-wide circle free of grass and several inches of loose dirt.

Be careful, and for God's sake wear your hearing protection! This stuff is LOUD, and under the wrong circumstances can be bloody dangerous.

This is a joke, right???

I'm following the directions to a "T" and leaving the stuff in the provided containers. Not interested in handling it anymore than need be.

BCD:
Nope, not a joke. Confirmed on numerous dryers, washing-machines, stoves, refigerators, and one rusted-out VW Beetle. This stuff is POWERFUL, so be careful. It is, however, -very- stable. You can drop it, kick it, hit it with hammers, light it on fire...it takes a HUGE shock to set the stuff off; centrefire rifles only. No pistol-calibre rounds and no rimfires need apply.

Bang BOOM!!!!! Yes enjoy and inform the rest of us on the findings. I doubt I'll be able to find a place in Hi to do something like that, but if the BOOM is good enough I'll have to try.

cybersharp 03-02-2006 11:07 PM

I think I will give this stuff a "shot", sounds fun. :)

Menoman 03-05-2006 03:37 AM

very interested to hear the results here!

TheDave87 03-09-2006 09:41 AM

Dont beleive that I have anywhere to use those, which is a shame, because they seem fun as hell. We usually use old PCs, networking equip, and the occaisonal empty pressurized cylinders that used to full of bad things
