range of .22 mag

I am just wondering what a good range is to sight in my rifle. Up until recently I was sighted in fairly close but now I have found a free 100 yard range to use. I have a 4x scope on it. It was kinda hard to see my target at 100 yards, so I have been considering sighting in at 50. Any ideas?

What range you sight in your .22 mag really depends on what you are shooting with it, and what distance you typically engage your target at.

what kind of target were you shooting at?

you should'nt have any trouble picking up your target and hitting it at 100yards with a 4x scope...
a lot of old timers will use nothing but 4x scopes, and they routinely make 250+ yard shots....

in theory you could sight in for 500 yards...

what your shooting doesnt really have enough nuts to be consistent at that range tho...

just do 100 yards and call it a day. move up to a 22 caliber centerfire if you wanna move into the 250 yard range..

with a good shell you will probably group at about 2 or so inches a 100 yards with a rimfire.

as well with rimfires, you're always gonna have a few shots here and there that will end up about 3-6 inches outside your group.

with a rimfire thats just sumpn you gotta live with.

I second going with a .223 instead. The point of a magnum rimfire is lost on me.

A .22 mag will go 100 yds easy and accurately, even without the scope.

because you can't shoot 100 yards and have the power to kill with a .22 and in some places you can't shoot .223 because of houses, and some older people will let you hunt if you don't use loud guns.
