Any airgunners?
 

I just purchased a couple of cheapo air pistols, and am having a blast shooting darts in my garage.
I've been doing a lot of research online, and am considering moving up to a finer match-quality pistol. --I don't plan on doing the competition thing necessarily, but I'd like to do 10m target practice to hone my marksmanship.

Anybody else have experience or recommendations in this area?
I have my eye on the Daisy 747...seems like a good value for a beginner.
I'm leaning away from CO2-powered stuff; one of the things I like best about the sport is the low cost/no cost fun factor.

I like plinking and usually shoot "at" squirrels to keep them away from the bird feeder.

It seems like a lot of air gun club members either have the Daisy or an obscenely expensive pistol, so it's going to be hard for me to find anything better in that price range, at least.

Yep, I just bought myself a cheap air pistol last weekend on a tip from my friend while I was a New Year's/B-day party. I bought it and it's quite fun to shoot. My gun's a Daisy Powerline Airstrike 240, by the way.

I have a Marksman 2000 deluxe, and a Crosman Black Venom, which just arrived today.
Both shoot darts, pellets, BBs, and bolts.
The Marksman is pretty solidly built--mostly metal, but shoots a little bit all over the place.
The Crosman, on the other hand, is made of the cheapest plastic ever, but is more powerful and 10x more accurate than the Marksman. At first, I was pretty happy with my new purchase, but after a few shots, the cocking mechanism went awry, and things started popping out of place, and getting jammed.
I'm pretty bummed.

jvwgtr, my gun shoots both plastic and aluminum BBs, and it's a sweet little Beretta replica. Best of all, it's a springloader so I don't have to use CO2 cartridges to shoot it. and it also came with a target that has a BB trap to save all of the ammo you shoot. and I got it all for 20 bucks. Pretty nice deal if you ask me.

That's an Airsoft gun, not an airgun. You can put on safety glasses and shoot each other with them, but they're not much good for target shooting.

MrSelfDestruct, I just intend on using the gun for a little weekend plinking and working up to something better and more serious than what I have now. Hey, ya gotta start somewhere.

Yeah I have a couple of .177 Crossman airguns: a rifle (RepeatAir 1077) and a 3576 revolver, both very fun, co2-powered, and with circular "magazines" of 12 and 8 respectively). I love being able to just whip them out at my cabin or even in a garage and blast the crap out of some cans, fruits (watermelon makes for a fun time), and other destructibles.

I used to have a pump as well, but I like being able to emit a large volume in a relatively short amount of time. Having to pump about 6 times or more to get any power out of it was kind of irritating after a while. I believe it was a pumpmaster 760.

Actually, all three of them have been Crossman (or Crosman, whatever), and they're great. I personally haven't had any issues with the plastic furniture of the guns (the barrel, receiver, and pretty much everything else is metal as far as I can tell).

edit: Wow. Crosman has a .177 pellet rifle that fires at up to 1000 fps muzzle velocity. That's a spicy meat-a-ball!

Why are you only considering CO2 models? The best airguns, as I recall, are the spring-piston (not to be confused with pump) variety popular in Europe.

I used to own a Feinwerkbau air-rifle that had a beautiful finished walnut stock. You loaded it like a coach gun - which simultaneously activated the spring piston. I got about 750fps out of it using .177 pellets. Had a scope and everything.

longbough, if you're talking to me, that's just how it happened. CO2 powered are still very good for any purposes, provided you get a good model.

Then why co2? With spring-piston you get a consistent velocity for each shot without having to buy cartridges. And from what I gather there would be some variance in muzzle velocity if the cartridge was low.

Firstly, they're much more common. Second, I didn't even know spring-piston existed for a long time (even after I got those ones), and I was younger so I didn't research my purchases the way I normally do now.
