Post your military pics....

...even if you were in the Air force!

Pic of me from my Army days.

It is the atwess (miles laser gear) version of the At-4 anti tank rocket. We had a ton of fun back in those days. I was scanning my old Army pictures and I thought this one looked pretty cool. I was 19 in this picture.

Reminds me not to stand behind anyone wearing green holding a pipe.

holy hell, I always knew they had a massive back thrust but wow!

very impressive photo.

macmanmike6100 08-23-2004 06:29 PM

what kind of damage could that thing do? looks amazingly powerful for a "hand-held" weapon

08-24-2004 08:26 AM

capable of penetrating 400mm of rolled homogenous armor.

MrTuffPaws 08-24-2004 11:51 AM

That is about 15.7 inches or steel plating for those of you not into the metric system

vermin 08-25-2004 09:38 AM

Note to self: increase armor plating to 16 inches. :)

Cool pic.

"BACKBLAST AREA CLEAR??"

We had a girl in BCT who fired an AT4 dummy round (they resemble flaming tennis balls) when the drill sergeant was standing right behind her... she got kicked off the range and recycled back to the beginning of training.

That same day we were working with the grenade launcher on the M16/M203, and we had a guy that couldn't get it to work. He spent 15 minutes performing SPORTS on the M16 portion of the weapon. The drill sergeant kept egging him on... it was some hilarious shit.

I like the wepon, cause I'm the guy that wants to work as a combat surgeon fixing up people hit by it. no wepons to hurt people, no job for me...

I don't know... I'd much rather sit back in my aid station popping blisters and treating poison ivy than stabilizing an 18-year-old private who just had his legs blown off by a mine... :(

 That's too funny.
There was a PVT in my BCT platoon that couldn't get his M16 to fire. He got all pissed off and all... his weapon was on safe...

Oh, I've got an even better one than that ... :)

Guy in my training CO spent 5mins (which is an eternity when you've got half a company ready to go) on the firing line at the qualification range trying to get his M-16 to feed correctly, got all the Drill SGTs over there watching him and everything .... turns out, he had put the magazine into the well upside down. Yes, it is possible to jam the bottom end of a 30-rd GI mag into the well of an M-16, if you slam it hard enough. SGTs had a hell of a time getting it out of there, too.

He took crap for that for the rest of Basic. Probably ended up in the Chemical Corps (with apologies to anyone from Chemical).

As to the armor penetration of the AT4, very few modern armored vehicles have rolled homogenous armor plate. It's just used as a metric for comparing different armor systems. There are probably composite ceramic/alloy materials that can equal 16" of homogenous steel and still only be 2-3" thick. (Google 'Cobham Armor' if you want to learn more.)

Yep, I've fired the AT-4, it is awesome. They're working on a new one that has so little back blast that it can be fired indoors, which is pretty scary if you think about it falling into the wrong hands.
