Self-defense knife

I'm looking for a good self-defense knife, hopefully a folder with a clip so I can avoid it being considered concealed. It will probably end up serving some time as a hunting/general purpose knife, so it definetly needs to be durable tho.

Any suggestions welcome.

Well, this is probably going to turn into a "state which knives everyone here owns" thread, but oh well.
I love my Sampson's KISS tanto half/serrated. The tanto point makes it really easy to open any plastic wrappings/puncture anything. One thing, the blade is quite wide, so puncturing anything like medium/heavy cardboard is a little hard.

only problem with the sampson's kiss is the lack of anything to stop the hand from sliding up onto the blade on a stab- I like the CRKT m-16's with the carson flipper- easy opener, usualy legal and the flipper serves as a great guard when its open- check the length rules of your state, and also the rules on opening systems- some of the assisited openers can be illegal some places- CRKT is one of the best for the money- cold steel is good but can get pricey- also, remember that if you have to use it as a weapon, you will go to court, and a tanto blade = the knife automaticly being considered a weapon instead of a tool that you happened to use for self defence....
BTW- I sell knives for a living, so i get this ? a lot- your local knife dealer also undoubtably gets this a lot, and could probably help you- which brings me to the next point- handle the knife you are interested in for there is any way to - one size does not fit all and you want to try the action, ect - any knife is useless to you if it does not feel right, you cant open it, ect... if you have to buy sight unseen, then ask about specific ones that you like- chances are that someone here has owned one, and may respond-

i like the boker line. they have some nice auto's and are small with clips and you cant beat an auto for self defense.

Thanks of the help so far. Previously I had been looking at the CRKT M-16, and was going to get it off knifeworks.com, but i have no idea whether its legal or not in oregon (its actually going to be the first knife I've ever bought). Any help here would really be appreciated.

My vote goes to the Benchmade AFCK (model 806D2).

The only thing faster than an AXIS lock is an auto!

have to chime in on the gerbers too- just got a gator with a 3.75 inch blade- suprisingly good, sturdy knife at a great low price- only prob is that it has no thumb stud, but 5 bucks will get you one aftermarket- thing about the gator is that it has the best feeling handle that I have held in a long time, and your hand slipping up (mentioned above) is just about impossible....
