Identification Help
 

I bought a sword some time ago at an antique shop, and have been curious as to it's country of origin/purpose. Do any of you know anything about it based on these pictures?

I will try to see if it matches anything in my books- dont know origin off the top of my head, but its a cavalry sword, designed for thrusting, that resembles some of those designed in the late 1800's/ early 1900's. ie when calvary was barely hanging on by its fingernails and was pretty much obsolete- the crest on it should help with the I.D. though- looks like its in great shape-

That is the Polish White Eagle. Pre-Warsaw pact, because it has the crown. The eagle was crowned only while Poland was self-sovereign. The cross on the eagle's breast is not something that I have seen before.

so,maybe world war I polish?

I'm betting a bit earlier than that. The cross is probably indicative of some meritorious or service order, which probably means some regimental combat or personal honor. When was the last time Poland had a war before WWI?
