Cheaper alternative to NYPD issue glock
Hey guys...I'm going for the NYPD exam ina few months and I wanted to start practicing with a handgun. I've only owned a rifle before so I don't have any exp. with pistols...I know I need to get the permit and all that good stuff and take the classes.
What I'm looking for is a decent alternative that will give me a good idea about what to expect with a standard NYPD issued Glock. Thanks guys |

My advice is to find a gun range that rents and just practice with a Glock.
I can't think of an alternative that isn't a) more expensive or b) has that goofy trigger safety. But if you insist, maybe a Ruger 9mm DAO. You'll at least get some experience shoot double action, which I believe most cop guns are.

If you are nineteen, I personally don't know of any state where you can buy/own a handgun.

Why would you buy and imitation glock (XD), when you could get the real thing for the same price? I don't see the logic there. I've never talked with anyone who has fired both the Glock and the XD and prefers the XD. Also, if the NYPD uses the Glock, it would make more sense to do the same.
