Knife Throwing
 

Does anyone else on the board throw knives? I've been doing it for a few years now and I find it immensely relaxing. I use a set of Hibben Pro Throwers and consider myself fairly proficient. If anyone has had good/bad experiences with certain types of knives, target, techniques, etc... It would be much appreciated if you would share them.

I've started to throw recently. Not very good at it yet. Any good resources out there on the net?

I've never really looked online, but I'm sure there are some great resources out there. I have the Gil Hibben Knife Throwing Guide, and it has some useful information in it. I think it can be obtained for under $10. It has information on knife selection, target selection, target making, and throwing techniques. I highly recommend it for anyone just starting to throw.

I have tried that a couple 'a times, almost broke some stuff. It was bad.

It can definitely be a dangerous activity if the proper precautions are not taken. Even under ideal situations, knives are sharp and if they don't stick, can bounce back with a great deal of force.

I threw at log ends for about 40 hours or so, got near an avg. of sticking 2 out of 3 and got bored of the whole business. I can't remember for the life of me what the knives are called.

been throwing for about 10 years now

when I started, I hadn't got any tips and learned to do it all wrong... later on I met another thrower (an AMAZING one) and he straightened me out.

I've got a few sets of the cheapy 'on target' 8" throwers, a few 13.5" dragon knives, and a whole crap load of 6", 8", and 12" home-made throwing spikes.

The spikes are by far the cheapest way to throw.. made em all from galvanized nails/spikes with just a hand grinder, and they're more forgiving on your targets.

I'm ok... I can generally stick 9/10 throws, within 6 inches of each other from 2 spins away. Can only practice indoors now, so mostly throwing from 1 and 1.5 spins.

A guy I know can pin-point playing cards stuck on the wall from 3 spins away. He is a Ninjutsu grandmaster, so I'm not counting on beating him in throwing contests any time soon.

Throwing knifes rocks, I used to do it before I moved to Texas. It's a hard thing to give tips on so I would suggest reading a book also.

I've tried it before, without much success. I used some Hibben Pro Throwers and could stick them maybe 20% of the time. I had a problem of missing and getting the knives lost in the grass behind the target.

I tried abit years ago and always wanted to pick it up again... I was looking on http://www.knifezilla.com and they have throwing spikes. I figured id give thoose a run.

I don't know what it is, but I can't make a throwing knife stick for the life of me.

I'm best with an italian style switchblade (yes, like morgan freeman used to throw against a dartboard in SEVEN). And can get one to stick about 7 out of ten times. I've tried throwing with a regular pair of siccors for some reason and can get those to stick well also.

I'm sure I'm doing it all wrong since I can't get an actual throwing knife to stick, but I haven't found a good book on it yet. I remember reading the Hibben book but not finding it helpful.

There's a book called Combat Knife Throwing on Amazon.com, but I don't know. Is anyone familiar with it?

i've been doing this on and off for the last 20yrs or so, my personal favorites are inexpensive throwing ax's, best thing i could say is reading for proper technique and loooots of practice
