Which isn't necessarily bad, IF that's what you want, but it obviously isn't a gun you would take out and shoot very often, if at all.

So if you are looking for an investment, maybe.

If you are looking for something to shoot, no.

I'd pass because I think that is way too much to spend on a gun you wouldn't shoot.

It's a nice gun but for that price you could get a nice chrome colt....... chrome is nice looking and dosen't wear off slipping in and out of a holster.

I have never understood the draw of engraved guns. Perhaps it's because I'm young yet (a mere 22!) but I think the engraving is hideous. I like a nice black pistol... maybe some stainless for highlight.

Can someone who likes the engraving explain what it is about it? I just don't understand.

my friend has a kimber 1911....nice gun...but i really am not a fan of single action from the start.....

double action then single with a decocker isnt bad

Actually, just cock the 1911, and flip the slide stop safety on the left side up, and she'll stay safe for a long time. Flip the switch down on the draw, and grip it tight, and you're ready to spread chaos, inequity, and mayhem abroad!

I have a Kimber Stainless Target that really excels in what's it's built for. Kimber's precise machining makes for an extremely reliable and accurate pistol. The 1911 has very few parts, and its elegant simplicity is pure genius. If you like the stopping power of a .45 and the feel of a 1911, I highly recommend Kimber.

Regarding engraving, do yourself a favor and see what good engraving looks like.

Why so ornimental? why not go for just the standard gun blue finish with black handgrips?

Don' get me wrong i'm in love with the 1911 and there isnt anybody who wants to carry around an ugly weapon but a flashy one like the ones above just attract unwanted attention.

Yeah, it's definitely a terrible gun and is tremendously unsafe. I have no idea why they would keep making them 92 years after they've been out...

Ruger was making New Army Dragoons 140 years after they came out. Do you consider a single-action black powder revolver to be safe and up-to-date just because it is still being made? How about CVA's Kentucky Long muskets? Those were first introduced 200+ years ago.

Just because something is old and yet still in production does not immediately make it mechanically incredible and superior to more modern choices. It just means it's marketable and has staying power.

Personally, piss on the 1911. I want a more modern design, something with better safety features, accuracy and reliability, not to mention firepower - like the Browning P-35 =)

I've a Colt Commander 1991A1. Go for the 1991 models. They are much safer and look/feel/shoot like a 1991.

The Series 80 1911-A1 has the same safety features of the 1991-A!, and a greater variety of choice in finish, set-up, and calibre. Not knocking the 1991-A1 at all, just mentioning that colt has put the same safety features in its' normal 1911-A1 since the Series 80, giving more choice for those who are safety minded.

As an aside, I've thought MANY Times about picking up a 1911-A!. While I've no great love for the gun, the 1911-A1 is one of the THE classic designs. I enjoy the various customs and have often thought about building one. In the end though, the simplest, bare bones 1911's are the ones that draw me back. As such, the 1991-A1 and Springfield Armory's GI Issue parkerized offering keep catching my eye.

I think what I dislike about them is the slide trigger. I grew up a revolver man, and still am. As such, all the autos that I like have hinge triggers (you'll note my comment above about the P-35). As a result, I've found myself looking HARD at Para-Ordnance's LDA .45 and feel my resolve weakening. I had a P14-45 and thought it a great gun that just didn't agree with my hand. The LDA might solve that problem, and then I could happily own and shoot THE seminal American auto-pistol.

I have to agree with BooRadley, after 92 years John Browning's gun is still going strong. I am not big on single action guns for first guns I always suggest double acting guns for first time gun owners. But, either way lots of practice is needed. Brands I would suggest for 1911's are: Colt, Kimber, Para Ordinance, or Springfield. Remember, with guns you get what you pay for and don't be afraid to buy used if the gun is in good shape. Anyone used one of those PAra-Ordnance LDA-.45 models yet? The P-14-45 that I had was a great shooter, I just didn't care for the trigger. I'm thinking that the LDA's light double-action may just be the cure I need to actually like the 1911.

I love my HK USPs, I have two of them, the tactical and the compact.

Anyone who has shot both care to elabrate on how these 1911 models compare?

I have not shot a LDA but I have "played" with several at gun shows and man they are nice. With that trigger pull you would never believe that they are double action.

That was my experience handling them. I was curious to hear how well they shoot.

I had an LDA. Good gun, great trigger, I just liked my regular P16 better. Remeber, it's not the gun that has to be safe, it's you!


So, what's with all the pic of pimpguns?? LOL. I won't keep something that I don't shoot at least every once in a while.
