What fictional weapon would you want?

Okay okay okay....

There are SO many different categories of fictional weapons. These categories all range from "fantasy" to "Sci-fi" Preferably, you'd all choose a weapon that's hand held. Where's the fun in blowing the shit out of your enemie's planet? (okay, that's actually pretty amusing).

I'll just pick one from each

Fantasy:
I think that an elven-made broadsword would be so excellent that words cannot describe...

Sci-fi:
Hmm... this is tough... I'm going to have to say either a good old Lightsaber or something perhaps lesser known... like... an E-web repeating blaster rifle :D

CrazySaturn 09-04-2003 06:31 PM

Rail gun or jacketed hyper velocity CSW. Basically a jacketed medium caliber weapon (20-35mm, would be used for BMPs etc.) with small jets throughout the barrel to spew fuel as the projectile passes the jets. They ignite, bringing the projectile to hypervelocity.

debaser 09-04-2003 06:38 PM

I'd love one of those rifles from the end of Starship Troopers.

Yeah, that and the "Blue Whacker" from Last of the Mohicans and I'd be set.

Lebell 09-04-2003 06:49 PM

Plasma rifle, in the 40 watt range or the M41a Pulse Rifle:

http://www.half-life.hu/kepek/desertcrisis/pulse_t.jpe

Tickford 09-04-2003 06:58 PM

The BFG from Doom, yeah baby......

fhqwhgads 09-04-2003 08:34 PM

How about the "gun" from The Fifth Element? That about wraps it all up...

Realistically? I'd take any of the big fantasy movie swords to put up on the wall as a showpiece...

AlCap0wn 09-04-2003 08:53 PM

Fantasy weapon: Does Ash's Boomstick count? If not, what about the chainsaw? :)

Sci-Fi: Original Doom rocket launcher w/backpack. 100 rounds, never needs to reload or cool down, and can be carried by a single man running at full sprint. Gotta respect that.

MichaelFarker 09-04-2003 11:09 PM

fantasy: the "kingmaker" sword of Arthurian legend (it's good to be king)

sci-fi: an implanted nanotech factory (As long as the little robots did what you told them, you'd get to kill without a trace, live through almost anything, and communicate and gather information with perfect precision, not to mention being able to think faster and move more quickly than your opponents.)

John Falcon 09-05-2003 03:51 PM

Blue lightsaber....easy.

G5_Todd 09-05-2003 05:27 PM

yep....lightsaber would be my pick.....

nowthen 09-05-2003 06:06 PM

Lightsaber, no doubt. If I had Bill Gates money, I would devote every cent to developing a real lightsaber. :D

bubbagump 09-05-2003 07:25 PM

the 2 gold 1911's from faceoff, even though they arent really "fictional"

PredeconInferno 09-05-2003 09:59 PM

Wait, I changed my mind. I don't want a E-web I want REASON :-) If you've never read Snowcrash you should. It's from that book

BAD ASS.

Deuce66 09-06-2003 01:56 AM

Yeah, you cant argue with REASON =)

NeverBorn 09-06-2003 01:42 PM

REASON is overkill and beyond..

1398342003 09-06-2003 08:29 PM

What is REASON?

picardcaptain 09-06-2003 08:31 PM

the persuader

Ilaek 09-06-2003 09:56 PM

I want the superslege from fallout.

PredeconInferno 09-06-2003 10:29 PM

LOL I'm so glad that you people know what REASON is.....

I love that book so much. It's my favority Sci-fi book.

And it's true, no one can argue with REASON

kinsaj 09-06-2003 10:32 PM

If I recall correctly, Reason is a box attached to a small, gun-like nozzle that shoots shards of spent uranium at an insane speed, pretty much shredding anything you point it at. The beauty of it is getting to say "Don't worry, they'll listen to Reason."

WhiteDevil 09-07-2003 09:22 AM

Oh yeah, my dream weapon would be the Kill-O-Zap gun from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy series. It's good to have a weapon with sufficient prongs and pointy things to let it be known which side is the bad one to be on and how bad it is to be there.

PredeconInferno 09-07-2003 11:15 AM

Yeah, reason was a portable chain gun.

It was powered by radioactive isotopes of some obscure element, thus it needed to be kept cool all the time. It also shot depleted uranium bullets at, which is right, and exceedingly fast speed. It was actually a gatling railgun system.

phredgreen 09-07-2003 12:41 PM

i'm not terribly sure about reason... it seemed a little buggy from the get-go. i'd want something a little more reliable... read stephenson's The Diamond Age and tell me that a skullgun wouldn't be the shit.

beyond those things, i'm feeling something along the lines of the ZF1 from the fifth element:

Quote:

Zorg's prize gun, the ZF1, is an amazing piece of weaponry. It is un-detectable by X-rays. It contains an arsenal of machine gun, flame-thrower (Zorg's Favorite), net mesh, missile launcher, freeze-cannon. The machine gun of ZF1 has a special feature. After successfully hitting the target the first time, all following shots can be re-directed to the same location. It even includes a red button to activate a 5 second self-destruct sequence.

breid 09-07-2003 05:01 PM

5th element for sure. Or a Noisy Cricket from MIB

DelayedReaction 09-07-2003 05:33 PM

A lightsaber is the obvious choice; who needs a cutting torch when your massless blade of pure energy goes right through everything?

But when it comes to being an absolute badass, I'd have to say the BFG9000. Not the 10000, the original Big Fucking Gun.

Let's face it. Nothing else can compare.

GrayWolf 09-07-2003 08:22 PM

Can you beat a lightsaber?

89transam 09-07-2003 08:45 PM

One of the doom games had a double chainsaw. Id take that for sure, cause a regular chain saw is just insufficient.

Jaseca 09-08-2003 10:43 AM

Either know magic, not a weapon in and of itself, but could be I guess.

Or MD Device

telekinetic2 09-08-2003 03:50 PM

Fantasy...hmm...the One Ring...mwhahahahaa

Sci Fi: An obscure gun from an obscure novel series called the 'timeline wars'. It was reloaded by cramming random crap into it's intake until it had the proper mix of elements to make it's ammuntion, which were little BB's with a tiny rocket in them that would seek the target, and navigate to it, and bounce around inside the target until they were out of fuel...basically turning an entire person/animal into a big bag of spagetti sauce. Mmmm....

im2smrt4u 09-08-2003 04:06 PM

Fantasy: A functional verson of Narsil.

Sci-Fi: Lightsaber.

goatse 09-08-2003 10:09 PM

i dont know how many SNL fans there are out there

but i'd have to go with the "garden laser"

Agreed. That thing was amazing, took care of leaves like no other

BuddyHawks 09-09-2003 09:02 AM

I'd take the Uruk-Hai sword from LotR. Big Ass Spike
http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/images/uc1309.jpg

Regziever 09-09-2003 09:20 AM

Hmmm.. I'm torn between a starwars lightsabre or Spawns armour... Hmmm... I don't know witch one to pick so I say both.

MSD 09-09-2003 09:36 AM

I thought about REASON, but because of the overheating issue, I'm going to have to turn to the rail gun from Eraser.

ROFLMAO

I'm taking a protoss zealot's Psi blades and armour and Gandalf's sword.

Fire 09-10-2003 01:28 AM

Definately the lightsaber- what else is there

zampolit 09-10-2003 02:03 AM

Fantasy: How about the Ark?

Sci Fi: (not strictly scifi but...) Giant Robo! Yosh! ;)

Kaydron 09-10-2003 05:23 AM

Fantasy: some kinde of a magicalsword

Sci Fi: A Doomsdaycannon :P

redravin40 09-10-2003 06:39 AM

Fantasy-Iron Mary (magical war ax)

Science Fiction-Any Battle Exo-skeleton (or even the loading one from Aliens)

For full scale destruction one of the hover tanks from Hammers Slammers.

Sirian 09-10-2003 09:44 AM

Fantasy I would say either the Ranger sword that Stridar uses before Narsil, or Narsil itself, both are extremely sweet.

Sci-Fi, what's better than a lightsaber you say? Well a double bladed lightsaber of course! So I would have to have one of those!

Lord Humungus 09-10-2003 10:16 AM

Well......a light saber would be nice BUT....what could you really do with it? Killing is illegal. It would be neat but since I am not a Jedi I would never be able to use it properly. Its a Jedi's weapon and face it, we ain't Jedi.
Therefore, after long consideration, since you said "Weapon" I cant pick a device used to stop time because that doesn't really fall under the weapon category. I would probably go with the weapon that Predator had attached to him which included the ability to turn invisible so I could safely rob banks and obtain an enormous amount of wealth and live an easy life.

The End

pointfourfive 09-10-2003 12:43 PM

Since I'd probably inadvertantly end up sawing off a limb with the lightsaber, probably Deckard's pistol from Blade Runner, just because it's pretty nifty. :)

pocon1 09-10-2003 01:04 PM

For sci-fi, I'd have to say Princess Leia's blaster. It did not matter where she pointed it. She pulled that trigger, and shit started dying. For fantasy, I'd have to say a vorpal sword. It was magically designed to chop off people's heads by aiming for the neck.

Lyaec123 09-10-2003 03:25 PM

Rail gun... I know, I know, they are possible to make, but still a real railgun would be incredible... Eraser style ;) Including the xray scope, hehehehehe. Think of what you could do with that... the ultimate sniper's weapon.

papermachesatan 09-10-2003 10:23 PM

Green Latern Ring.

440sixpack 09-12-2003 05:21 PM

Excalibur, from the movie by that name.

Also, not entirely fictional but it would be cool as heel to have Blain's minigun from Predator, if you could reasonable carry the damn thing.

Postscript: Those body mounted machinegun thingies that Vasquez and Drake in "Aliens" had were cool also.

bundy 09-13-2003 11:05 PM

ok.
so i´m thinking for my personal defence... i´ll choose these weapons.

one of these...
http://www.gamespy.com/bizbuzz/july02/bizbuzz25/t2s.jpg
and one of these...

Those would be the M56 Smart Gun.

These huge crane mounted guns are primary offensive and defensive machine. They fire the M250 series round at rapid fire speeds. They have built in IR tracking, which can be converted to movement tracking to aid in enemy location. They do, however, drastically reduce a marine's maneuverability.
They also are programmed with the profiles of the other members of the squad and will stop shooting if pointed at them.

gwr_gwir 09-14-2003 09:53 AM

anyone ever read Heinlein's "Tunnel in the Sky"? Much the same question of any weapon was posed, to a group of people colonizing a planet. The one that best survived, carried only two knives - equivalent of ka-bars. The rationale was that with a huge gun, the pattern you fall into is "confident, cocky, lazy, dead", whereas with only a knife, you're alert, because you constantly fear for your life.

frankx 09-15-2003 04:51 PM

Double headed lightsaber from Phantom Menace (So I can play Star Wars Kid, too!!)

Aragorn's sword from LOTR.

William Wallace's longsword from Braveheart (the one that gets thrown at the end of the movie).

A Warhammer mech or Battlemaster mech from Mechwarrior.

(Hey, if we're gonna dream, dream big)

Mostly from Alan Dean Fosters novelization of the movie but this site has good descriptions of all the Colonial Marines weapons.

http://www.gurpsmaster.de/cmltweap.htm#m56

yellowgowild 09-15-2003 11:28 PM

Fantasy: Goku's abilities, if that can count as a weapon.

Sci-Fi: klingon bird of prey.

Lunchbox7 09-16-2003 05:44 AM

Cant beat the lightsabre. But I still would like a batleth. Thats one of those klingong swords that worf uses in Star Trek

Kyo 09-16-2003 01:42 PM

Sephiroth's Masamune (FFVII)

JimmyTheHutt 09-16-2003 04:15 PM

Fantasy: Green Destiny from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon . Or possibly Luggage from Discworld.

SciFi: The Shoulder Mounted Cannon (with targeting gear) from Predator .

Veritas en Lux!

I used to have that book but I have no idea where it got too...

mkultra 09-21-2003 08:08 AM

M41 Pulse Rifle from Aliens

The twin pistols Ebony and Ivory from Devil May Cry (demon possesed so that they had infinite ammo)

The monofilament sword from an anime I can't remember. It was a handle with a spool of atom thick wire that had an anti gravity ball attached to the end. Pretty much it was a sword that was perfectly sharp, perfectly stiff, and could extend from an inch to 50 meters long.

Pyrate 09-22-2003 08:29 AM

I'd settle for an AWP off Counterstrike

tigerkick 09-24-2003 07:17 PM

Astrocloud 09-24-2003 09:41 PM

That's easy... I would like a good set of eye-teeth

arcane 09-26-2003 01:10 AM

hmmmm

from sci-fi it would have to be a lightsaber
from a video game it would have to be the railgun from quake 2....the one from quake 3 sucked ass too much hesitation when you fire it
the railgun from the movie eraser was pretty sweet too

Great Scott 09-27-2003 01:55 AM

Fantasy is easy: That would be Excalibur and it's scabbard. Great sword fit for a king, but with the scabbard you don't lose any blood, no matter how much you are injured.

Sci-Fi: Toss-up there between Thor's Hammer and Green Lantern's Power Ring. I have to go for the hammer though, the whole worthy thing appeals to me, plus I know I would forget to recharge the ring.

hawkeye 10-02-2003 08:32 AM

fantasy: Woundhealer from the books of swords

Sci-fi: Wolfwood's Cross//Gun

numist_net 10-02-2003 07:08 PM

http://home.ica.net/~mordeth/compend...images/m72.jpg

these are AWESOME. Anything that can do what this does is great ion my book. The size of a small rifle/shotgun, with 2mm ammo (pellets) fired with electromagnetism at close to the speed of light.

Go Fallout 2!
